2023

Everyone knows I love the new year. Big New Year Energy over here. (Putting that on a hat for next year). I am not going to bore you all with my thoughts on it again. But you can read about it here and here if you are interested. Just know, I love new years resolutions/goals/words of the year/resolves, etc. So, I will of course be making new years resolutions for 2023.

Now I want to share some of my goals and resolves for this coming year. I took a week or 2 to really think about what my priorities would be for this year. Even reflecting upon past goals. I could probably do this in December, buuuut I didn’t. Let’s be honest, December is for minimal thought and maximum pleasure. Now it is January and I am ready to settle on my intentions. These are very similar or the same to some of my prior year goals. I will be using the new year to refocus on what is important to me. So let’s get into it.

3 Miles

I want to make sure I go for 1 walk or run (or combo) a week that is 3 miles in length. I have seen people tout the 3 mile/day challenge. That is way too much for me. Especially living in New England. The weather just does not cooperate with that type of challenge around here. But I like the idea of a weekly attainable movement challenge. Trying to get 3 miles in once a week is the perfect amount for me and my lifestyle. I am going to keep track of this goal with a bubble chart.

1,000 Hours Outside

In regard to the above goal, I want to get that 3 miles in outdoors. This parlays into goal #2. I stumbled on the @1000hoursoutside instagram back at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021. I have thought about jumping in on this trend ever since. There are so many benefits to getting outside. It can boost your natural immunity, you get more oxygen to your muscles and brain, boosts your vitamin D, reduces anxiety, good for digestion, etc. There are also significant benefits for your children to have unstructured outdoor play. I downloaded the free tracker sheet and will be trying to keep close track of my outdoor time.

Read 27 Books

I love reading. I have always loved reading. When I was a little kid my Mum would say I could read for a “little while” before bed. But then she would come up hours later to go to bed herself and find me still reading. I still read every night before bed. Sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes for 55 minutes. It depends on what time I get into bed, how tired I am, how good my book is, etc. I have never closely tracked how many books I read in a year until 2022. I set a goal to read 12 books because I didn’t know. Well I read 24 books! So I decided to make my goal 10% more this year which is 27 books. I am already more than 1/2 done with my first book. You can follow along on my reading on GoodReads.

Focus on Relationships

I get so much good vibes and energy when I get good quality time with my husband and best friends. It fills my cup up in all the best ways. I want to prioritize getting that good quality time with my people this year. It can be hard in this season of life with demanding careers and kids, etc. But I want to try and do at minimum a monthly hang with BFFs and a monthly date night with my mans. Even though it can be difficult to carve out that time, I know it is worth it. Scheduling ahead is a bummer but at least it makes it happen. So I will be trying to schedule all the fun activities!

Drink 80 oz of Water Most Days

I make this goal EVERY year. It is hard to drink enough water during the day. Especially when you are a coffee addict like me. Then at the end of the year, when it starts getting cold in Boston I drink less and less water. Thats why come the new year I am always nice and dehydrated and ready to realign myself back with this goal. I feel so much better and have so much more energy when I am properly hydrated. I know I won’t think 80 oz every single day but I would like to do it at least 4 days a week.

My motto for this year will be consistency over perfection. But I also made sure to make these goals realistic. These are all completely measurable goals which I can (and will) track to keep myself accountable. I plan on using bubble charts to keep track of most of these goals. I will share my updates on all of these challenges on Instagram. You can follow along there! Let me know some of your goals for the year in the comments!
