It is a surprisingly nice fall day today. Can you believe Halloween has already come and gone? It’s time to take down all the skulls and bats and put up some turkey decor I guess! I am trying to avoid all the election hoopla on the news for a few minutes. I just made a cup of tea and settled in to relax while the little Finster is napping. Now seemed like a good time to fill you all in on a big book round up! I am so backed up on sharing my recent reads. But I thought I would go back in time and share 5 books I cruised through over a year ago. They were all so good so even though I read them so long ago I wanted to share anyways! They were just that good. So let’s jump in and discuss them!

Pet Sematary

I actually started this book when I went on maternity leave. It took me forever to finish. Not because it wasn’t good but because of adjusting to a new lifestyle. I usually read when I get into bed to relax. Except I couldn’t do that when I had a little infant laying next to my bed! I didn’t want to turn on my lamp and wake her up. And also, it is a spooky, scary book so I wouldn’t read it when my husband wasn’t home. But I eventually got back into my routine when Finley moved to her own room and dug into this.

It is Steven King so you know its spooky. It takes place when a doctor and his family moves to Maine. After a series of unfortunate events, a paranormal presence enters the doctor’s life. There is a little surprise at the end I did not see coming. The first half of the book was a little slow but I would recommend it if you like paranormal spookiness.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown

Get A Life, Chloe Brown - (The Brown Sisters) By Talia Hibbert (Paperback) : Target

I assumed this was a YA novel for some reason. It is certainly not! It is a humorous romantic fiction. There are a few sexy scenes for sure. But there is a lot of comedy. It follows the main character, Chloe Brown, as she tries to live life to the fullest despite being saddled with a chronic illness and some natural awkwardness. Chloe is charming and eccentric and the ultimate storyline is uplifting. This was a quick and easy read.

In a Dark, Dark Wood

In A Dark, Dark Wood (Reprint) (Paperback) By Ruth Ware : Target

I devoured this book! If you love suspenseful books with a good twist at the end, then any Ruth Ware book is for you. If you like Girl on the Train or Gone Girl then read every Ruth Ware book!! But start with this one! This book is fantastic. A homebody is invited to a weekend away to celebrate a very old friend’s bachelorette. But it isn’t quite what she expected and then things start getting creepy! You will be reading this with bated breath because you can just feel something sinister is around the corner. I could not put this down.

The Death of Mrs. Westaway

Death Of Mrs. Westaway By Ruth Ware (Hardcover) : Target

Oops, another Ruth Ware book. I just had to read another one of her books after the last one. I was just so sucked into her style of suspense. And let me tell you, this one did not disappoint. I cruised right through this book just like the last. The main character, Hal, suddenly finds out she is being left an inheritance right when she needs it most. She soon feels that something isn’t right. But, of course, it isn’t what you think and you will be shocked at the end! Ruth Ware is just so good at keeping you on your toes and feeling that subtle dread throughout the whole book. I am still sad the book is over. I can’t wait to get my hands on another Ruth Ware novel.

The Two-Family House

Two-Family House (Reprint) (Paperback) (Lynda Cohen Loigman) : Target

I don’t even know how I stumbled upon this novel but I am SO glad I did. It was absolutely FANTASTIC. Lynda Cohen-Loigman has such a way with words to portray emotions. You literally feel every character’s emotions right along with them. And there are some gut wrenching moments that you feel in the pit of your stomach as you reading. The book follows two very different brothers who live in a two-family house together with their respective families. It starts in the 1940’s and follows them for decades. Where there are families, there are secrets. The two families are so relatable. You will be completely engrossed by this story.
