Current Favorite Podcasts

It is a glorious Sunday morning as I write this. I am sitting on my back screened porch sipping on coffee while a light breeze rustles my messy bun. Life doesn’t get much better than this!

I haven’t updated you guys on my current favorite podcasts in awhile.  I am currently digging a bunch of new/old ones I’ve discovered.

I’ve been a fan of the blog Young House Love for awhile. I recently found out they’ve had a podcast since 2016! I was so pumped (and shocked that I didn’t already know. It is aptly titled Young House Love Has a Podcast. The Young House Love blog is a married couple who blogs all about DIY, design and home improvement, etc. The podcast is also about home improvement, design and their life at home. They interview other bloggers, designers and celebrities. They give you different tips and tricks for your home.  They do goofy quizzes. PS. Sherry sounds just like Mila Kunis. Let me know if you agree!

I often find new podcasts through some of my favorite podcasts. Whether they create a spin-off or the hosts recommend or refer to a podcast they are digging. One of my favorites, Criminal, came out with a spin-off this winter – This is Love. It investigates ‘Love’ or as they call it “life’s most persistent mystery.” There are 6 episodes in Season 1 and a new season is coming out in the fall. These 6 episodes all feature a different love story. But they aren’t your typical rom-com movie line of love. These are unique, detailed and pull at the heart strings in an indescribable way. I can’t even explain it. Just go listen.

I am pretty sure there isn’t a female Millenial who doesn’t follow Refinery 29. Well did you know they have an award winning podcast?! Strong Opinions Loosley Held is a feminist pop culture podcast. The most recent Season 3 is a 5 part capsule collection on feminist memes. Each episode is 15-25 minutes long. They are short and sweet so perfect for doing a few quick chores around the house, getting dinner ready, going for a walk or whatever else you do in your life that is boring.

Someone Knows Something is a Canadian masterpiece. The host, David Ridgen, is a filmaker turned part-time podcaster. His voice is like butter to the ears (whatever that means). There are 4 seasons and each one follows a different cold case as David investigates. Each one is more captivating than the last. He tracks down leads, interviews people, does whatever he has to do to try and solve these cases. You feel like you are really sitting shotgun next to David as he is investigating these cases. You hear his tires peel away as they have to quickly leave a property, you hear dogs barking as he goes into a stranger’s house to interview them, you hear gravel crunching as he walks along. I can’t say enough about this podcast.

I am SOOOO late to the My Favorite Murder party. People kept recommending this podcast to me. But when they described it as two women discussing different crimes in a comedic format I just didn’t get it. I just thought it sounded weird. And it is weird. But it is AMAZING. It is a true crime comedy podcast. But it is so much more. It is hilarious and beyond entertaining. I started from Episode 1 and at first I was like ehh they have kind of valley girl accents and seem a little annoying (oops Boston cynicism at its best!) But they hit their stride and every episode is better than the last. Once you get to know the 2 hosts you feel like you are their friend. They say what’s on their mind and use lots of obscenities. This podcast has created a cult following and rightly so. They do live shows and are coming to Medford, MA in the fall. I have never been more upset when I went to buy tickets and they were already sold out.
