Easy Apple Crisp

All I ever hear in the Fall is that people love to go apple picking. The second most frequent thing I hear (usually about a week later) is “What am I going to do with all these apples?!” Well don’t worry I have an easy solution, apple crisp! This recipe is easy and so good!

Easy Apple Crisp

Adapted from Tastes Better From Scratch

Ingredients

Topping:
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • Rounded 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • dash of salt
  • 1/3 cup of unsalted butter (diced)
Filling:
  • 4 apples of choice – honey crisp are my fav for this, but whatever you have on hand will work just fine!
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 1  tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Rounded 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • dash of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. To make the topping, in a medium sized bowl mix all of the topping ingredients together with a fork until it is a crumby consistency – The crumbs should be on the smaller side, not giant hunks.
  3. Make sure those apples are peeled and sliced – place them in an 8×8 baking dish or pie pan.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter and flour well.
  5. Add lemon juice, milk and vanilla and mix.
  6. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon and salt.
  7. Pour mixture over apples and mix it around to coat the apples.
  8. Make sure apples are coated and then spread into an even layer.
  9. Pour crumb topping over apples as evenly as you can.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
  12. Don’t forget to top with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Ready to go in the oven!

Fresh out the oven, golden brown and bubbling up on the edges!

This Apple Crisp is so good. It was completely gone in about 3 days from my house! And my roomie doesn’t even usually like dessert but he ate this right up! Store it in the fridge covered and reheat in the microwave. This would even be a great dessert to bring to Thanksgiving since it reheats so easily. How do you guys usually use up your apples after apple picking?
