Book Club: Fates & Furies and The Secret Keeper

Is anyone else in utter shock that it is already October?? I can’t wrap my head around it! The cooler weather just has me cuddling up and devouring books lately. I am also in the process of moving (hence the piles of boxes pictured above!) so anything to procrastinate more packing. This past month I read two pretty good books.

First I read, Fates & Furies by Lauren Groff. At first I had a little bit of a hard time getting into it because its written almost in a prose style. But you get invested in the characters quickly. It is really like nothing else I’ve read recently. The first half of the book is from one character’s point of view and then the second half is basically all the same events from another character’s point of view. The two main characters are spouses. It is really fascinating to see the differences in perception between them and to learn things you didn’t even realize the first time around. I definitely recommend this book if you can get past some of the flowery language.

Next I finally read my first Kate Morton book! Everyone has been ranting and raving over this author and I finally had to dig in and try one out. I was not disappointed with The Secret Keeper. It is about a family secret that has haunted one of the main characters since childhood. It jumps back and forth between present day and mostly the 1940’s. I love when books do that. The twists in this one are pretty good too. I did not see the last part coming at all and I am usually pretty good at predicting what is going to happen. I don’t want to spoil anything because this is a good one. It is an easy read even though it is a complex mystery. It really keeps you sucked in. I highly reccomend this.

I am already completely sucked in to my next read! I will be finished well before next month’s book club. It looks like it will be (at least) another double header next month. What are you guys reading currently?
